PCA-SAR Volunteer Coordinator Needed (Occasionally)

In 2017 PCA-SAR implemented the SignUpGenius website as a means to give all of our members (not just the faithful monthly meeting diners) an opportunity to volunteer at our DE, AX and social events.

SignUpGenius is a simple to implement and easy to use program (much like our use of evite). In June I stepped down from my position as volunteer coordinator to allow another PCA-SAR member to accept a turn at this 2-3 times a year assignment. It’s the easiest job in our club!

The initial set up for the SignUpGenius website is in place. It contains our short history of sent volunteer request templates and logos and is waiting for the next volunteer coordinator to take the wheel.

A big thanks to Margo for managing this for us for the last 3 years!

SAR’s Adopt-a-Roadway June 29

Please mark your calendars for Saturday morning the 29th of June because it’s time for our Club’s semi annual Community Service event!

For many years our Club has been committed to the Adopt-a-Roadway program as a very effective means of demonstrating our continued support to our community.  The Adopt-a-Roadway program is part of the nationwide effort of sponsorship designed to help beautify our roadways by facilitating trash removal and saving the taxpayers of Pima County approximately $250 per mile cleaned which translates into thousands of dollars saved. Signage along our portion of Orange Grove Road clearly recognizes PCA SAR’s sponsorship.

This is a fun and not too strenuous task that will take about two hours of your time and will make you feel good about your participation in helping clean up our community.  We would certainly appreciate lots of volunteers for this civic-oriented event.  The more volunteers the faster the task can be completed.  I highly recommend the Adopt-a-Roadway program as a fine community service event, not too labor intensive, and another perfect opportunity to get together with friends in the Club.

Because we are conducting this event in June with warmer temperatures; we will start the cleanup at 7:00am at the Southeast corner of Oracle and Orange Grove Road.  We will perform the cleanup and then go to Beyond Bread on the Southeast corner of Ina and Oracle Road for coffee and pastries provided by the Club. Please note this is a bit different than our normal routine of meeting at Beyond Bread first.  By performing the cleanup first and starting at 7 am we can avoid the heat of the day.

Arizona Department of Transportation requires that we wear hard-soled closed toe shoes (no sandals) and comfortable clothing.  Gloves and hats are recommended as is sunscreen.  A safety briefing, cold water, safety vests and bags for the cleanup will be provided.  We hope to see you there.
